The AOS Automated Ball Wash and Transportation System

There are approximately 14,000 golf courses and driving ranges throughout the United States. Since there are 3,006 counties (according to the US Census), that averages just under five per county. That’s a lot of competition for members and casual players, so you must provide the best experience possible. The AOS Automated Ball Wash and Transportation System is an efficient way to increase member satisfaction while simultaneously reducing labor costs.

Automated Outdoor Solutions is proud to be the only importer and national distributor of this revolutionary, club-changing product. We understand the need for a convenient solution for keeping range balls clean and in constant supply – and to do so without temporarily closing your course or range. After all, whenever you close operations for manual ball picking, you’re potentially losing earnings, thus decreasing your total return on investment (ROI) for that range or course.

Our company is well-versed in the specific requirements for designing and operating a golf range. Thanks to this extensive experience, we can customize our driving range solutions to suit the needs of clubs of all sizes, from the smallest country club to the largest commercial driving range.

How Does the Washing and Transportation System Work?

The AOS ball washing and transport system is responsible for the washing of the balls collected and the transportation back to the ball dispenser.

The system works in conjunction with the automatic BallPicker. Once full, BallPicker returns to its charging station and drops the collected balls into the ball pit. This process is fully automatic, from ball collection to being transported back to the ball dispenser. No human interaction is involved during this process.

Once the balls are deposited, a stainless steel slider uses a back and forth motion to maneuver the balls into the transportation pipe.

The transport pipe uses negative pressure to draw the balls back to the dispenser located in the ball room. In the transport pipe, water is introduced to clean the balls. They also travel through a brush unit, ensuring the balls are clean and ready for use.

Step 1

Our Echo Range Picker will collect and automatically deposit the golf balls into the ball pit in preparation for cleaning

Step 2

Once the balls are deposited, a stainless steel slider uses a back and forth motion to maneuver the balls into the vacuum pipe

Step 3

Water is introduced in the vacuum pipe to clean the balls where they travel through a brush unit on their way to the final receiver

Step 4

The final receiver drops the balls into the ball dispenser of your choosing (i.e. vending machines, ball baskets)

What’s Required for Installation?

Five things need to be installed for the whole system to work. These include:

  • 1. Range Mapping (For Echo Robotics BallPicker)

A qualified AOS technician will map out the working area using RTK GPS technology to allow the Ballpicker to navigate the range.

  • 2. Ball Pit:

A rectangular ditch is dug out in order to house the stainless-steel ball pit frame. The transport pipe, along with the necessary electrical wiring and air control pipework is installed in an underground conduit.

  • 3. High Wear Area:

A 32ft x 12ft high wear area is dug out, a solid sub base is installed, and then topped off with artificial turf to firm up the heavy duty track areas.

  • 4. Ball Room:

Depending on the facility, the ball room is where the ball dispenser, system control panel, air compressor, and ball brush unit is usually located. This allows for easy access for the driving range staff.

  • 5. Green Transport Pipe:

The green transport piping is installed underground and runs from the ball pit to the ball room. Inside the ball room, the range balls are transported into the brush unit and then onto the final receiver.

How Does AOS Help Manage This System?

Automated Outdoor Solutions isn’t just a distributor but an end service provider. We ensure that our driving range maintenance system is high-performing and reliable by completing all work according to our project model. From the site appraisal to the final installation, we oversee this process for you.

Every client relationship begins with an initial, no-obligation site appraisal. One of our AOS Solutions Experts will meet with you over the phone or in-person to calculate a customer service plan or purchase price based on your facility’s ball output.

AOS is proud to offer affordable purchasing plans that allow you to make monthly payments instead of paying everything upfront. Spreading the total cost over a fixed period will enable you to reap the benefits of robot technology without breaking the bank.

Once all parties agree, we’ll survey your site to confirm specifics like:

  • How many robots will your range require based on the given circumstances?
  • What is the most suitable positioning of the charging station?
  • What is the best ball drop zone?
  • What obstacles must be avoided (including slopes to climb, etc.)?

Our expert is happy to answer any questions you have during this process. When the survey is complete, a driving range awareness report is submitted to the customer for approval. Once approved, installation of the necessary parts and equipment can commence.

Will You Teach Me How to Use the System?

Yes, of course! Before our AOS installation experts consider the project complete, they’ll guide you through the learning process. You’ll be shown how to use and manage your system and have an opportunity to have all your questions answered. When you feel ready, they’ll hand the control over to you while monitoring and assisting your team along the way.

Exclusive Benefits of Using Our Robotic Ball Wash System

When your club implements our robotic ball wash system, you can expect the following exclusive benefits:

Automated Ball Cleaning

The fully automated system washes balls during the transportation process back to the dispenser for maximum efficiency, eradicating the need for manual process labor.

Seamless Ball Transportation

Balls travel to the dispenser via the transportation pipe until they reach the final receiver, where they can be dispensed for use again with zero hassle or stress for your club.

Continuous Ball Supply

When the ball wash is combined with the Echo Robotics range picker robot, your drive will have a continuous ball supply – without the need to close your range for picking.

Potential Cost Savings

Most golf courses and driving ranges see a 20% to 60% cost reduction after implementation, with the exact savings dependent on ball values and current operating costs.

Meet the CEO: Joe Langton

Joe Langton is an industry leader with numerous credits to his name. He’s the acting CEO of Automated Outdoor Solutions and Vice President of Langton Nursery and Landscape Supply. He’s also President of Langton Group. His brother, John, is partnered with Joe in all of his business ventures. For the last three years, he’s also run a successful podcast, Automating Success. His daughter, Julia, helped found the podcast and has co-hosted several of its episodes.

Anyone who has met Joe won’t be surprised that he says he’s always been a people person. He exudes a comfortable self-assurance and openness that quickly puts people at ease from the first interaction, where he boldly asks, “What will it take to make you a customer?”

Joe’s success story starts with his second job, where he worked at Best Buy. Joe did so well at Best Buy that they sent him to Elgin Community College (ECC) for small circuit analysis. From here, he was recruited by IW17 and became a union electrician.

While still working as a union electrician, Joe founded his snow removal company. That first company, Langton Snow Solutions, is thriving today and 290 employees strong.

Like any great entrepreneur, Joe Langton didn’t stop there. He used that first company as a launching pad to greater success, stating that he’s “always found that I can create supporting businesses to my core business.”  To do this, he likes to identify his customers’ needs and develop businesses that will solve those.

When Joe realized his snow removal clients could use high-quality landscaping, he founded Langton Group Landscaping. Then, he identified problems within the landscaping industry and discovered the Husqvarna robotic lawn mower technology as the solution. So, he founded Automated Outdoor Solutions. Here, he discovered he was passionate about uniting the industry and opening people’s minds about automation – a goal he continues to work towards today.
